Thousands of years ago, in a time before the IPO of Amazon – nay! – even before the emergence of Starbucks and Microsoft (so distant are the epochs of which I speak), the people of Greece would bring their most pressing questions to a place called Delphi.

That’ s because Delphi Precision Imaging, a Redmond-based provider of industrial CT scanning services for leading aerospace, medical device, and electronics manufacturers, is looking to hire its first full-time sales professional. 

It’ s an exciting opportunity, because Delphi serves a very deep customer base with a very small staff – you’ d have excellent access to top management, and an unusual opportunity to help define the direction of a company that’ s definitely going places.

As the whole inbound/outbound/end-to-end thing implies, the person in this role would work directly with customers’ engineering teams and would also be expected to generate new clients via networking, industry events, cold calling, and regular engagement. You’ d be responsible for managing sales leads, completing RFPs, participating in service demos, handling the close process, and transitioning to post-sales services.

As you might expect for a small, family-owned firm, Delphi places a high priority on honesty and integrity, particularly with regard to handling customers’ highly sensitive technologies and intellectual property. The company is also looking for successful sales experience, preferably in the fields of technical or engineering services; engineering sales; or aerospace sales. A bachelor’ s degree is required, as is experience with CRM (Salesforce).

PS From PSP: As a resident of a cabin in the Cascades, I have an obvious interest in the worrisome intensification of Western wildfires. I’ m sure those of you who live in far more urbanized parts of the Seattle area share this concern to at least some degree – this past smokeless summer was a welcome respite for the city after a couple of years in which air quality suffered from the fires raging across Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.

So I’ m rather fascinated by the efforts to thin some of our area’ s more thickly wooded areas, to create the spacing that would have been more common in eras when natural forest fires were allowed to burn more frequently.

With climate change, rising temperatures and drier air across much of the West has created a heightened risk that abnormally thick woods will serve as tinder for the kinds of fires that have done so much damage already, especially in California. This selective thinning-out campaign is an attempt to forestall such mega-blazes here in the Pacific Northwest.
